i do not know why you want to use named pipe in Shell script. but anyway, it is easy if you use nameless pipe:
1st_program | 2nd_program
the shell will create the processes for the 2 programs, and the 1st program will write data to the pipe and 2nd will read data from the pipe.
With named pipe, namely FIFO, you can use:
mkfifo yourfifoname
1st_program >> yourfifoname &
2nd_program
1st_program | 2nd_program
the shell will create the processes for the 2 programs, and the 1st program will write data to the pipe and 2nd will read data from the pipe.

1st_program >> yourfifoname &
2nd_program
